Our Walking Group is a sub-group of the Kelsall and District Probus Club. It is compiled of like-minded colleagues who enjoy walking and socialising together. The Club itself started with only eight members and soon rose to around forty. A small walking group was started in 1999 by the Club’s Founder Secretary, Derek Carter and led by the very first appointed Walks Coordinator, Brian Rischmiller. The early walkers formed a small but very adventurous group undertaking treks as far afield as Offa’s Dyke, Snowdonia, Lancashire and Derbyshire as well as the more local walks in Cheshire and Merseyside. They took turns, as we do now, to plan and organise walks.
In addition to the post walk meal we also have a ‘bonding meeting’ at a local pub. This takes place on the Tuesday before the walk. The meeting offers the walk leader and participants the opportunity to discuss the forthcoming walk. Thereafter it is a good chance for a general chat. We don’t charge a fee for walking. If you decide to take lunch with the group you will need to pay for your own meal on the day. Most walks require transport and if you drive you will be expected to take your turn. Dogs are not permitted on walks. Our walks range in complexity from EASY through to VERY DIFFICULT and participants are expected to make their own risk assessment as to their capability to undertake any given walk.
